What do the shore support crew do? I saw Brian Harris and Rick Williams listed on the web site, but wondered how they help you while you are at sea? – asked by Frances, from Carolyn Sheild’s classroom

Answer:

They both have worked extensively on the boat and know it well, and they are a resource for technical questions about the equipment of the boat when I am at sea. Brian in particular is knowledgeable about the Open 60 class of boat (Great American III is an Open 60 boat) because he was the manager of Gartmore for Josh Hall (UK) for two Vendée Globe races and an Around Alone. He knows more about Open 60s than anybody else in the United States, and is a valued advisor, and a great friend.
