Question asked by Webmaster:

How do you get fresh water? Asked by Steph, Hawkesdale, Australia

Answer:

We have a reverse osmosis desalinator on board that makes fresh water out of seawater. It tastes really good! It takes in the seawater, pushes it through a membrane (essentially a filter) that takes out the salt molecules. You get a small stream of fresh water and a bigger stream of really salty water that is drained back into the ocean. The fresh water goes into our 88 litre fresh water tank.

The desalinator takes 4-8 amps to run, so usually I’ll run it when the engine is charging the batteries with the high capacity (165 amp) alternator.

For the liferaft, we also have a handheld version of this desalinator.
